Etsy Cards

Eeeps! I won some lovely etsy/business cards from Peony Paperie. They arrived this weekend and I was immediately pleased with their look and feel. I asked her to put my etsy shop, email, and phone number one them. My picture is a little blurry but they turned out beautifully. She will work with you on content, color, layout, and font. Miss Bliss has her own little etsy shop and is selling a sweet variety of these self promoting products. Please check out her store and tell her I sent you!

Old Red Barn Co

Dana over at Old Red Barn Co has lost her mind! Maybe she hasn't but she is giving away 3 beautiful quilts that are all worthy of this woman's attention. The fabric alone makes me smile but when I consider that there is hard work and love in each one I want to walk around giving people a quilt style hug!

Indiefixx

Is it really Autumn? I'm in TX so sometimes I forget since the weather is pretty balmy. Over at Indiefixx, Autumn is in full swing with the Cornucopia giveaway! The prizes are a mix of goods from different sponsors and I would like any of them. My favorite sponsor is Sublime Stitching because the creator is a local with talent and is part of the Austin Craft Mafia. Be sure to check it out!

Here is my end product. I'm so proud of it! The CD spindle was one of those items I held over the trash can but couldn't throw away {Pack rat}. The idea of using it for cupcakes or a mini bundt cake saved it from a landfill. Hoarder or recycler? I think I'm a little of both. This article tickled me a bit.
Know a hoarder? A guide to helping
Use a gentle, respectful approach.
Assess the situation for safety.
Refer the hoarder to a doctor for evaluation of the underlying cause.
During clean up, expect slow, gradual change.
Let the hoarder touch and talk about the items to be discarded.
Reassure the hoarder that others will help.
Get the hoarder involved in the solution.

Perhaps I need this type of intervention :)

Owlivia Gets An Eye...Patch

I saw this clock hanging in my elderly neighbor's garage as I was helping her get rid of some puzzles. I dreamed of this clock; I wanted this clock. You see, I collect owl tidbits and this one had caught my eye. I thought I should have offered $5 for it when I was there but then the moment passed and I never did. Months later my BF and I were driving by and noticed it laying with some other salvageable goods before trash day. This baby wasn't trash! I immediately yelled for BF to stop driving and go back. He thought something tragic was on my mind. There was no tragedy unless you consider this treasure going to the trash a tragedy. I quickly scooped it up, gave the neighbors a sweet grin and wave through their screen door and we were off. At last it was mine! I noticed the missing eye from little Owlivia and thought I would put a googly eye or doll eye in it's place. I hung up the clock and kept meaning to take care of her. I finally did it! I decided she could be like Aunt Lily in Pushing Daisies and wear an eye patch although I don't think Owlivia lost her eye while cleaning out the cat box. Anyone have a patch pattern or idea for her next look? I'm open to suggestions!

Japanese Weekend

I've been busy and a little bummed {I'll save that for another post} so I forgot to blog about our Japanese weekend. My BF and I would love to go to Japan but the reasons not to are numerous. We had a little bit of Japanese style fun right here in Texas. We started off by having dinner at Nami Japanese Steak & Sushi in Belton. It was pure yum especially considering it is directly next to a bingo hall! The chef was hilarious, the food was good, and the company was even better! My sweet gal pal celebrated her 30th birthday in silly, Japanese style. She is a heap of lovely. Everything was perfect...except we didn't play bingo! My BF and I rounded the weekend off with candy from Asahi, a local Japanese market, and a Dunny from Monkey See Monkey Do.

Presidential Garb

I've seen quite a few presidential crafts in the last couple of months. The Stijky Corps has the most clever one I've seen lately. I like the Warhol spin. I really dig screen printing so it caught my attention. What is your favorite Presidential Garb or craft?

Yay, You Voted! High Five!!

Yay, it's Election Day! I'm so thankful that I voted early because the lines are long today {from what I hear}. Now I can sit back, watch the coverage, and get freebies for voting. The lovely Lee Meredith has a giveaway for voters. It's a pdf of a knit hat pattern, dandelion stencil, alpaca applique, a thank you card you can print, and a mac & cheese page! Keep your "I voted" sticker and check out Lee's site to get a goodie for doing the "right" thing! You can also get the High Five image above from Lee. I can't wait to get mine. I've been itching to use my crayons and tonight will be the perfect opportunity!

Would you like to give yourself a pat on the back for voting? You can order some classy calling cards from the talented Miss Bliss at her etsy shop. I've been wanting some of these little cuties but I have not convinced myself {yet} that I need them. For now, I will enter her giveaway and admire her work. Perhaps she will be coming out with some red, white, and blue cards!

Shoot From The Hip

Shoot from the hip: to react to a situation very quickly and with a lot of force, without thinking about the possible effects of your actions. I shoot from the hip every now and again. I try to keep those rash moments to a minimum unless it involves an 870 express 12-gauge. This weekend I was literally shooting from the hip when my BF and I made the road trip to see my Dad and Stepmom. My Dad is always trying to teach me to be safe and proficient with guns.

I certainly don't mind guns. I like to hunt and generally stay away from handguns. I don't shoot animals for sport. If I plan to shoot it, I plan to eat it. This time I was shooting for practice and defense. I wasn't going to eat the clay and wood targets but I got a safe rush from shooting them. We were all out there practicing and taking turns; it was a nice use of family time. Aww...now back to shooting from the hip. They told me to hit a stationary target while holding the gun about hip level. That was a whole new feeling because it came with ease! Now, I know you don't use this type of gun that way but they were merely trying to show me how to protect myself from intruders while maintaining safety. With every pump I became more steady. They may have to talk me into holding the gun properly next time!
